Races

I've decided to recap my race results, mostly for my own records. If I wrote a blog post about it, I've included a link. The races are included in chronological order, from earliest to most recent. I've also listed my race PRs, but some of them are the only races I've done for that distance!

UVA Relay for Life 5k 10/16/10 in Charlottesville, VA
This was the first race I ever ran in. I had started running as a way to lose some weight - I gained a decent amount of weight between my first and second year of grad school. I decided to do a race, and my friend Sarah ran with me. I had to stop and walk about halfway through the race. Even though the race was a slow one, I enjoyed my first race.
Distance: 5k (3.1 miles)
Time: 35:30
Place: 170/196

PNC Bank Run/Walk for MS 11/25/10 in Wilmington, DE
After completing my first race, I begged my mom to do a Turkey Trot with me when I came home for Thanksgiving. She started training, and was way faster than I was. I only ran a couple times between the race at UVA and this one, and definitely had to walk a bit.
Distance: 5k (3.1 miles)
Time: 35:45
Overall Place: 810/1112
Division Place (19-24 Females): 58/66

PNC Bank Run/Walk for MS 11/22/12 in Wilmington, DE
Obviously the running bug left me for a while. I was bringing Joey home for Thanksgiving, and we decided to do the 5k race again. He wanted more of a challenge, especially since I told him he had to run the 5k with me (at my pace), so he did the 10k race in addition! This was the first time I ran a race without stopping at all, and I beat my previous time by 4 minutes!
Distance: 5k (3.1 miles)
Time: 31:36
Overall Place: 806/1719
Division Place (25-29 Females): 58/110

Ukrops Monument Ave 10k 4/13/13 in Richmond, VA
This was the first race I seriously trained for. I had intended to do a 10k in May, but plans for that fell through. The day of the race was the first time the training schedule had me running 6 miles, and I had run 5 miles twice, in the weeks prior to the race. Besides that, I had never run more than 4 miles straight. I was happy with how I did, especially since this was the first time I had run this far!
Distance: 10k (6.2 miles)
Time: 1:01:15
Overall Place: 11228/32251
Gender Place: 4601/19459
Division Place (25-29 Females): 1072/3171

Draft 5k 4/27/13 in Stuarts Draft, VA
Joey ran his first half marathon in Waynesboro, and there was a 5k going on at the same time that I signed up for. It was the inaugural event for the 5k, so I didn't know what to expect. I was very surprised to find out that it was only me and 30 other runners! It was difficult to pace myself, without having anyone else really around me, but I managed to shave off 2.5 minutes from my previous 5k time, so I was pretty happy. I also managed to win a medal, since I was the 3rd place finisher in my division! Not as impressive, when it's only out of 7, but I was still proud of myself.
Distance: 5k (3.1 miles)
Time: 29:01
Overall Place: 10/31
Gender Place: 5/22
Division Place (20-29 Females): 3/7

ATVB 5k Fun Run 5/3/13 in Lake Buena Vista, FL
I was at a conference in Disney World, and they decided to have a 5k "fun run" on the last morning of the conference. Thankfully there were more runners than my previous race, but since it was just a conference-sponsored event, there wasn't any official timing, or posting of results. This is the fastest I've ever run in a race, and unfortunately I don't have any official proof!
Distance: 5k (3.1 miles)
Time: 26:49
Update: I found a posting of the race results!! Somehow my last name was spelled wrong, so I don't know that I could use this as proof of pace for entry into another race, but I'm still excited I found them.

Overall Place: 34/79
Gender Place: 8/34

Charlottesville Women's 4 Miler 8/31/13 in Charlottesville, VA
This is one of the more famous races in Charlottesville, and fills up very quickly! The race reached its maximum of 3500 runners in just 4 hours! I had planned on training very rigorously, and getting a time of around 8 or 8.5 minutes/mile, especially after my last 5k. This didn't end up happening, but I made sure I got as much running as I could in, toward the middle to end of August. I enjoyed myself more in this race than any other race I've ever done, and it made me want to run more races!
Distance: 4 miles
Time: 37:38
Overall Place: 537/3029
Division Place (25-29 Females): 66/245

HCA Virginia 8k 11/16/13 in Richmond, VA
This was one of the races accompanying Joey's second half marathon, and was held by the same organizers of the Richmond 10k. This race wasn't quite as large as the 10k, but was still pretty big. The weather was pretty horrible - pouring rain during the start, and drizzling throughout the rest of the morning. I was definitely happy with how I did in the race, and even more proud of how Joey did in his half marathon.
Distance: 4.97 miles
Time: 45:25
Overall Place: 765/3368
Gender Place: 293/2190
Division Place (25-29 Females): 62/352

Charlottesville Ten Miler 3/29/14 in Charlottesville, VA
This was the longest and most intense race I had trained for, and I probably pushed my body a little too much during my training. I trained for 16 long weeks, and by the end of it, everything hurt! I was very proud of how I pushed through the pain during my training, and that I successfully ran a 10 mile race! I also was incredibly happy that the rain held off until after the race ended.
Distance: 10 miles

Charlottesville Women's 4 Miler 8/30/14 in Charlottesville, VA
I did not train for this race at all, and I had a really bad cold the day of the race. I went out anyway, and still got a halfway decent time! I'm really glad that I went out anyway. After this race, I started getting back into a regular running schedule.
